Interpreting Your Dreams

Know Your Dream - Know Yourself

After learning what dreams are, and practicing dream recollection, you should spend some time pondering your dreams.

Unresolved Stuff

Your mind doesn't fully archive information that you're not done with. These are mostly negative things and stressors like unmet basic health or financial needs, social conflicts or sexual desires. They could also be longstanding fears or generalized anxiety. On the other hand, they could be great sources of personal pride or accomplishment as well as new information that might be interesting or significant in some way. Either way, your mind has decided not to tuck them away just yet and they often creep up in your dreams.

What To Look For

Consider the events of your dream and where the elements might have originated from. Chances are that they are closely related to something you recently encountered. A movie, an emotional situation, an interesting conversation topic, anything. Ask yourself why this memory is significant.

Take note of emotions you experience during your dreams. Forget the dream context for a second and ask yourself why this particular emotion found its way into your dream.

Recurring Dreams

Escaping from danger, being out of control, and telekinesis are the three themes that have made up most of my dreams since childhood. Do you have any? Do you have any storylines that have been repeated two or more times in your dreams? I do. These are significant! Write them down each time they happen. Your mind is telling you that it really cares about the elements in your recurring dreams, so respect that.

Puberty & Life Stages

What stage of life are you in? Are you experiencing a new world? Did your sex drive just kick in? Are you trapped in a social situation or do you have an overwhelming burden in your life? If you acknowledge where you are in life, you just might find the primer in your dream codex. This goes the other way too. If you feel lost or unsure about where you are or where you're headed, pay attention to the themes of your dreams and you will learn more about yourself and be able to resolve issues that might be holding you back.
